Hi there, I’m Koosje!

pronounced "Kōsha”

I’m an artist and creative entrepreneur living in the Netherlands. I love drawing and I do it every day. On this website, I hope to inspire you to develop a drawing practice too, because it can make you feel good.

Sketchbook Flipthrough from Italy

Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday!

Let’s flip through my sketchbook.

In today's video, I’m sharing all the pages from the A4 Hahnemühle Nostalgie sketchbook I filled during my Italy workshop trip.

You’ll see drawings made in cafes, on the street, at the market, and even on a paper placemat when I grabbed the wrong sketchbook and had to improvise.

I walk you through how I made one of the drawings step by step, and talk about making choices, simplifying, and editing what you see.
You’ll get a peek into my process and inspiration, and II share how I draw during travel, with friends, and from reference photos.
There’s collage, color play, experiments, unfinished pages, and lots of sketchbook joy.

Here's your assignment for this week:

  • Pick a place to draw from observation. It can be a cafe, your kitchen, a bunch of reference photos to combine into one drawing.

  • Don't copy everything you see, but make choices instead.
Shift elements around to create a new composition.

  • Let go of accuracy. Play and edit. Have fun!

If you’re curious about the snippets approach that I mention in the video, you can watch it here.

To join the upcoming Paris workshop (that would be awesome!) go here.

The book by Cynthia Morris that I mentioned is called Her Lisbon Colors. It's a wonderful novel for anyone who loves travel and art. You can order it here.
