A Look Inside My Watercolor Sketchbook
Today I am sharing a flip through of my Hahnemühle watercolor sketchbook. I like switching paper types and formats because it keeps me on my toes.
This book has watercolor paper with a bit of tooth, so materials behave differently compared to the smooth paper I used in my previous sketchbook. If you missed that tour, you can watch it here.
The first pages of a new sketchbook can feel slightly uncomfortable, but there is also excitement in trying new things and finding fresh creative solutions. I love how fountain pens glide over smooth paper, but the rougher paper in this book made for interesting textures. I do not need to choose one or the other, which is why I keep changing up sketchbook brands and formats.
This sketchbook has pages full of memories, especially with friends.
A big part of this book was filled in Paris while I was teaching the Paris Sketchbook workshop with Cynthia Morris and Marcus McAllister. Teaching together was such a joy that we are doing it again next year. You can already reserve a spot!
As soon as I was on my way to Paris, my inner artist was fully switched on. I drew while drinking coffee, during class, at lunch, on sketching outings with the group and sometimes in the evenings to unwind. I tried things I normally forget to do at home, like more writing, lettering and Haiku poetry. Cynthia always encourages that, which shows how you get inspired when the right people are around.
This sketchbook filled up in less than three weeks, much faster than usual.
Then, I filled another one, so stay tuned for another flip through!
