Your Sketchbook Can Help You See More
One of the unexpected joys of drawing is how it changes the way you look at the world.
When I draw, I really start seeing. Not just glancing, but looking. And once you start looking, you notice so much more
Like the other day on the train, I was sketching people around me when I suddenly realized: we were all wearing sunglasses. Including me. A small thing, but it made me smile:
That kind of noticing happens a lot. I’ll spot patterns in someone’s clothing, colors that repeat in a café scene, or how quiet and still the place feels where I chose to sit and draw.
I can sometimes be restless when starting to draw. But as the lines begin to flow, something shifts. I slow down. I start seeing. And I end up feeling completely different. Calmer, lighter, a little more connected to the moment.
