What Happens When You Just Start Drawing
You are going to love this one. A Paris café, a cold drink, a sketchbook and absolutely no plan.
There's something about sitting in a Paris café with a sketchbook that makes you want to just start drawing right away and see where it goes. That's exactly what happened here.
In this video I walk you through a drawing I made side by side with my friend Cynthia. I started with line and added watercolor washes, capturing the coffee on my table all the way to the buildings and street life outside. Foreground, mid-ground, background and a lot of white space.
I took photos every two minutes so you can follow the whole process, from the first pencil line to the final watercolor washes.
One of the things I talk about in the video is how the drawing could have stopped early and that would have been fine. But curiosity kept it going, and the result felt more complete and alive than I expected.
That's what trusting the process looks like in practice.
