Wonky Lines in Lisbon

Wonky Lines in Lisbon

Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday, from Lisbon!

In April, I was in Lisbon. On my day off between teaching two sketchbook workshops, I sat down at the park to draw one of Lisbon’s iconic pink kiosks. Yes, the same one from the live Street View World Tour demo I did a few months ago.

This time, I recorded the process on location. Well… kind of. With no tripod, half a setup, and distractions all around, this video is a perfect reminder to embrace the imperfections.

You’ll see how I built up the drawing using a Faber-Castell PITT oil pencil, watercolor and colored pencil, adding people, layers, and texture as I went. It's not about getting every detail right. It’s about capturing the feel of the place. So come along and see the sketch grow, wonky chairs and all.

Also: if you want to fill your own travel sketchbook in a week, come to Paris in October! I’ll be teaching there with Cynthia Morris and Marcus McAllister. It’s going to be amazing: for more info and enrollment go here.

Materials used in the video:

  • Hahnemühle Nostalgie Sketchbook, size A4

  • Faber-Castell PITT oild pencil, extra soft

  • Daniel Smith watercolors

  • Pentel Aquash waterbrushpen

  • Caran d'Ache Luminance color pencils
