Turn 5 Minutes into a Mindful Drawing

Turn 5 Minutes into a Mindful Drawing

Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday!

Today is all about making drawing a priority, even when you only have a few minutes.

In this video, I share how I begin my day with a loose, intuitive drawing as a mindful meditation. This happens before I check emails or messages.
You will see my step by step process: starting with painting simple shapes, then adding lines and contrast with watersoluble colored pencils. I will show you how to avoid colors bleeding together and why I like to leave “air” between shapes. You will also see how to finish a sketch with an extra layer of color, a border, and a bit of writing for a personal touch. And of course, embracing imperfections.

This is a great exercise to warm up to your day, to loosen up, and to take the pressure off making something “perfect.

Materials used:

  • Etchr Sketchbook (100% cotton paper)

  • Daniel Smith watercolors

  • Derwent Inktense colored pencil (black)

  • Faber Castell Albrecht Dürer watercolor pencils

  • Caran d’Ache Neocolor II watersoluble crayons

A five minute sketch can be a fantastic creative kickstart.
Just a few minutes of drawing can set the tone for your whole day.
