Hi there, I’m Koosje!

pronounced "Kōsha”

I’m an artist and creative entrepreneur living in the Netherlands. I love drawing and I do it every day. On this website, I hope to inspire you to develop a drawing practice too, because it can make you feel good.

How to loosen up your sketches

How to loosen up your sketches

Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday!

Feeling stuck or uninspired?

It happens to all of us. In this Draw Tip Tuesday, I show you how I shake off the pressure and get back into the flow: by playing!
Using a fun photo as a reference (thanks to the Tekenuurtje Instagram highlights on @housecatillustration's feed), I grab some colorful tempera paint sticks and colored pencils and simply start drawing.
Is it a sloppy drawing and will it turn out wonky? Absolutely, thank you very much!

In this video, I talk about how perfection can block your creativity, and how playful drawing brings it back. I share tips on loosening up, letting go of detail, and using bold tools to make expressive, joyful sketches.

Materials used in this video:

  • Reference material from @housecatillustration

  • Tempera sticks (also called gouache sticks)

  • Caran d’Ache Luminance colored pencils

I also made this helpful video a while ago about loosening up.

Your assignment this week:

Find a photo you like, pick a few colors that make you happy, and draw fast and loose.
You can do it!
Set a timer for 15 minutes and just see what happens.

It's not about the result. It’s about making marks, having fun, and feeling better.
