Feeling Stuck in Your Sketchbook?
Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday!
If sometimes you feel stuck when you open your sketchbook and stare at a blank page, this video will give you the gentle nudge you might need.
A simple, playful way to get started without overthinking is to fill the page with a light wash of color. Right away, it will make a page more inviting, and help you loosen up before you even start drawing.
Starting with color sets the mood, adds texture, and gives your lines something to respond to. It helps your drawing feel more confident, even if you are not feeling confident yet.
Today I choose a warm yellow wash, but any light color you love will work. The goal is to keep it playful and relaxed. On top of the wash, you can draw anything. No need to search for "the perfect subject". Just look around, pick what catches your eye, and draw it.
For me, that is a couple of plants on the windowsill that have been part of my daily life for years.
This is about warming up, trusting the process, and enjoying that quiet, meditative feeling of pen on paper.
Materials used:

If you need an assignment this week:
Pro tip:
Prepare a few random pages in your current sketchbook with washes in advance, so you have pages ready for a fun surprise and challenge later.
More inspiration? In last week's sketchbook tour, you can see quite some pages with prepared washes.
