The Blob Method for Looser Sketches
Here's a habit worth breaking: drawing in lines first and adding color later. What happens when you do it the other way around?
In this week's Draw Tip Tuesday I'm starting with a watercolor "blob" and adding minimal line on top. The idea is to let the paint do the heavy lifting. A few loose strokes of color already give you shape, edge and mood. The line just comes in to clarify, not to outline or overwork things.
The trick is knowing when to stop. The blob already has edges. Your viewer's brain already fills in a lot. Trust that and keep your lines airy and minimal.
Materials I used:
Hahnemühle watercolor sketchbook
Daniel Smith Watercolors
Pentel Aquash water brush (broad nib)
Derwent Inktense colored pencil
