A Little Reminder For Your Sketchbook Practice
When it comes to drawing, you might often think: I should draw more. I should draw every day. I should have a sketchbook habit.
And then… you don’t. Those shoulds make it feel like an obligation, not something you actually want to do.
Drawing, for me, makes me feel happier and more grounded. It helps me be fully present. After years of doing it, my sketchbook has become my way of being mindful. When I draw, I forget about time. Chores and to do lists disappear. There is just this moment, pen on paper.
Remember, a sketchbook page is just a piece of paper.
You don’t need to have a plan to fill a sketchbook spread. You don’t need one stretch of time for it either.
The most Important thing is: you just need to start. Draw one thing. Then, draw something else. Maybe your time is up then. That’s fine. When you have a small pocket of time later, open the sketchbook again and add another drawing. And so on. Slap some color on the page too, and before you know it, you’re telling a visual story!
It really is that simple. Showing up is the hardest part.
During busy times, notice small moments you can use to draw. It’s a little drawing meditation. And it might even inspire or entertain the people around you.
